Tomas T. aka Promopocket is a graphic designer with an amazing sense of color, psychedelia and style. Recently we got a chance to catch up with him to ask some questions about exactly what he is up to!
Troy: So tell us a little background about yourself, where are you? What do you like to do? Where would you like to go? Anything fun you would like to share….
Tomas: Hi, my name is Tomas. I am graphic designer from Lithuania. I love and adore art and creation that I devote myself to. I can’t imagine even a day without creating something. I can say that art is my source of life, it’s the life itself that I cherish. I love my family, my sister who is also an artist, my girlfriend, I feel loved in return and love is what I want to share with everyone at this moment.
I always dreamed of travelling and discovering the world. And I would love to visit all the places that my characters have visited. I am young and promising and I believe that everything in life is still ahead. All big dreams too!
Troy: Your artwork is beautiful, psychedelic, and spectrum bending! How do you start, what is your process? Are you a professional illustrator/graphic designer? If so, what sort of work do you do for people?
Tomas: I don’t think I am a perfect professional designer already, I am always trying to grow and learn as a graphical designer. It’s important to believe in what you do and try to make the best you can, improve your skills and have high goals. Then you can always accomplish what you desire.
I got interested in graphic design about 4-5 years ago. 8 years ago I was studying at Art school that opened the world of creativity to me. I still can’t hold the pencil the right way, but I got a very good knowledge of colors and style.
Right now I work mostly in a field of advertising design, I make illustrations, logos for new companies and all other design elements that are required. I have wonderful clients who I really respect and they appreciate my work too.
It keeps me going.
Troy: The pieces look like they would be the most amazing album covers (this is a compliment!) what sorts of music do you like, or what are you listening to these days?
Tomas: I love many kinds of music, like abient, electronic, idm and minimal techno. Music is really a good source of inspiration or a start for a good mood to work. Though sometimes it’s also good to stay in peace and quiet.
Stephano: Turn us on to a few artists that we have never heard of…
Tomas: I don’t have idols in the field of art, but there are things that I see and like in this virtual world and that influences us as being a part of the same virtual world.
One of the first artists in the same genre as me that I met in the virtual world was Julien Pecaud – artist/illustrator from France. His works are really inspiring and giving start to new ideas.
Troy: what is the weirdest things u ever saw?
Tomas: There is always something weird happening in our lives, nature and universe when we least expect that. Sometimes even without consciously noticing it, but realizing it afterwards. Sometimes all of us are weird as personalities expressing that in things we create.
Troy: Your dreams must be really strange… describe your most memorable dream…
Tomas: I dream of so many things, sometimes the weirdest dreams, I don’t always remember. There are so many events and dreams at the same time. But as weird as it may sound, it usually never has any connection with what I create.
I usually fall asleep all inspired and creating something in my mind. And sometimes I have insomnia when I just get up and start working, ‘cause if I don’t I tend to blame myself for wasted time afterwards. Then after getting a little sleep and waking up in the morning I say to myself that I did a good job that I wouldn’t have done the other day, and the inspirational idea would have vanished too if I didn’t fulfill that during the night.
Stephano: What are you goals with Promopocket? Where do you see yourself with your art in 10 years?
Tomas: I haven’t planed that far in the future as 10 years but I do hope that I will be becoming better and better every year and I will be productive in my designs. Everything is changing in this fast revolving world, there are no limits to Art and nothing impossible. There’s always something waiting yet to be discovered and created, you just have to have wish for that. Passion as well. I hope I will still have it in 10 years from now. It’s important to know what you want, who you are and what you are aiming for in life!
Thanks Tomas! You are a true inspiration! Everyone be sure to check out his website at http://www.promopocket.com/
